Naxos island is popular with tourists due to the many beautiful beaches which accommodate people with a love of water sports and water activities. Windsurfing and kite surfing are very popular on Naxos island. The best beaches for speed and slalom windsurfing and kite surfing are Agios Prokopis, Agia Anna, Mikri Vigla and Pirgaki.
For those people visiting that want to take a closer look at life under the water, scuba diving is offered on Naxos island. Plaka beach is the site of Naxos’ first diving center. Classes and instruction in scuba diving are provided and trips are taken around the coastline of the island and to the Small Cyclades, a cluster of 32 small islands.
For land activities, visitors have several choices. One being to travel along the island’s quiet back roads on bicycles. One of the more popular roads to cycle on is the coastal road that runs up and down the southwestern shores, from Kastraki to Agia Anna. For more experienced cyclists, the route from Agiassos to Sangri is a bit more challenging.
Another way to see the island is on horseback. There are guided tours that run along the shoreline through both Plaka beach and Agia Anna beach. There are stops along to the way for rests and food breaks.
Other activities on Naxos island include go karting and 5X5 football. There is a track for kart racing in Galanado where visitors can race around the track with friends and enjoy the thrill of the speed. There are two 5X5 football fields in Hora where friends and family can play and enjoy the game. Or visitors can sit back and watch others play.
